Where did you study and what was the course title?

Kingston University - Product and Furniture Design (BA) Course tutors: Philip Davies, Jon Harrison, Carl Clerkin, Andy Dray

Creative mission statement

To make the day to day life easier through design.

How did you feel about winning a Colour in Design Award – what does it mean to you?

I am grateful to win a Colour in Design Award. Even without it, I truly value the whole CIDA experience. It was definitely new to me so I thank God that everyone I spoke to was really friendly and I’m so thankful I was given the courage to showcase my work.

What inspires your creative process?

My creative process is inspired by observing surroundings, experimenting with new things and research. I think understanding how things work and applying it is important for my creative process - something I saw the value of in university.

What do you want to do next?

We will see. Hopefully something in the creative industry that involves colour/moods. I’m someone who likes learning and trying new things (sometimes I need a little push but now I have become my own push). Maybe I’ll start researching set design.

Creative high point?

Experimenting and figuring things out is my creative high point.

Creative low point?

On the train, with random abstract sketches that I wouldn't want to show a tutor (although it does look visually appealing in my opinion).

One person during your studies/life who has really made a difference?

All the tutors I have had from early education to university and everyone I have met has impacted me in one way or another to help me grow into the person I am today. I am grateful for my sixth form product design teacher for allowing us to have creative freedom and supporting us in whatever we chose to design.

Carl Clerkin, the second year tutor and my personal tutor, definitely made me more confident in my design ideas. As I have written earlier, sometimes I need a push to try new things. The second year of university was really fun as it validated my interests of exploring different areas of design - to be supported in gaining these new skills was really important to me. Also, my university tutors really helped develop us all as designers and had a hand in the whole Colourin Lamp process - thank you for the feedback.

My faith, my family, my friends… Especially with the little things, I still got your encouragement and support. Thank you.

Favourite colour?

I love earthy colours. I like the olive green and brown combination the most.
