What was it like to be spotted by the judges as ‘One to Watch’ for 2018?

It was incredibly exciting to be approached by the judges, I feel extremely honoured to have been awarded a ‘one to watch’ designer.

How important is colour in your work and why?

Colour is the main aspect in my designs as it is always a starting point for me when developing a new project. I always start with photography when developing a new concept. Photographing the mundane things we see every day and manipulating photography therefore turning them into works of art; making the images unrecognisable. Then I look into the various colour combinations my photography has created, and experiment with dip dyeing yarn, allowing the dye to mix and create unique colour combinations.

What or who inspires you?

Our everyday surroundings are what inspire me the most. We become complacent with the beautiful things which are around us, whether this is, nature, architecture, or even supermarket packaging.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Currently it’s looking for the perfect job which suits me as a designer.

What would you like to achieve in the next year?

In the next year I want to find a job in the design industry that I absolutely love and say that I am proud to work for that company and be a part of that brand.

Tell us about someone who really made a difference to your creative journey in the past few years. Who are they and what did they do/say?

The woman that made a difference to my design journey is my woven textiles tutor Jan Shenton, as she really made me believe in myself. She has taught me for the past 3 years and has allowed me to experiment with any ideas I had. I am so thankful that she has given me the opportunity to push every single idea I’ve had.

What is your favourite colour?

My favourite colour is yellow as it makes me feel happy because of the brightness.
